How to open Spotify links in Apple Music

Short answer

Apple Music can't open Spotify links itself. iPhone – share the Spotify link to SongFlip and Apple Music plays the same song (1 tap). Android – Apple Music is available there too; set SongFlip once as the app for Spotify links and they open in Apple Music with 0 taps. One-off – paste the link into the web demo. To move your whole Spotify library, see the FAQ.

What happens when you tap a Spotify link without Spotify

Spotify shares links as open.spotify.com/track/… or the short form spotify.link/…, often with a ?si= part that only tracks who shared it. If the Spotify app isn't installed, the link opens Spotify's web player, which asks you to log in. Apple Music never sees the link.

SongFlip reads which song, album or artist the Spotify ID stands for, searches the Apple Music catalogue for the same release and hands the Apple Music link to the Music app.

iPhone: 1 tap via the share menu

On iOS, no app may quietly take over links that belong to another service. That's an Apple rule, not a missing feature. SongFlip works through the share menu instead:

  1. Install SongFlip (currently via TestFlight) and choose Apple Music as your player.
  2. In Messages, WhatsApp or Safari, long-press the Spotify link and tap Share.
  3. Pick SongFlip – the Music app opens on the matching song or album.

If you copy links a lot, put the SongFlip shortcut on the Action Button or call it with Siri: it converts whatever Spotify link is on the clipboard.

Android: Apple Music as your player, 0 taps

Apple Music has an official Android app, and SongFlip can send Spotify links to it:

  1. Install Apple Music and SongFlip from Google Play; in SongFlip choose Apple Music as your player.
  2. The setup screen opens Settings → Apps → SongFlip → Open by default. Tap Add links and tick open.spotify.com and spotify.link.
  3. Tap any Spotify link – Apple Music starts the song. The Apple Music app itself needs no changes.

Spotify domains greyed out? The Spotify app is still installed and owns its links. Uninstall it, or switch off Open supported links in the Android settings for Spotify. More help: fixing “Open by default” on Android.

Convert a single Spotify link to Apple Music online

Want to reply to a Spotify link with the Apple Music version, or are you on a computer? Paste it into the SongFlip web demo and copy the Apple Music link. It also lists YouTube Music, Deezer, Tidal and Amazon Music.

Things to know about Apple Music

  • Subscription: SongFlip opens the right song, but full playback in Apple Music still needs your Apple Music subscription. Without one, the Music app usually only offers a preview.
  • Lossless and Dolby Atmos: these depend on your Apple Music settings and on what the label supplied, not on the link. SongFlip only decides which release opens, never the audio quality.
  • Podcasts: Spotify podcast episodes are not music releases; many are Spotify-only and won't be found in Apple Music.

For your whole library, use a migration service such as TuneMyMusic, Soundiiz or SongShift. SongFlip's playlist converter handles single public playlists of up to 50 songs (first 5 free).

iOS only lets the owner of a domain open its links directly. Sharing to SongFlip, or the Action Button shortcut, is the closest Apple allows.

No. SongFlip doesn't log in anywhere and only uses the public information behind the link.
